This is a thin and soft, medium grain rice variety, consumed popularly by South Indians. It is easily
digestible with high fiber content and when cooked, it swells, softens, expands lengthwise resulting in
long, thin grains and separates. Thanjavoor Ponni Rice is highly nutritious with low fat and salt content.
It is mainly used in cooking breakfast dishes as well as plain rice. Ponni rice is mainly cultivated in the
River Cauvery basin in Thanjavoor district of Tamilnadu, which is often called as Rice bowl of Tamilnadu.
